About me and my approach
People have always fascinated me. Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been curious about the mind, how it works and the way it largely determines the experience we have of life.
Going through a particularly challenging period of life for me at the age of 28, I sought help from a counsellor for the first time and found it to be transformational. I felt seen, held and understood for perhaps the first time and it supported me to go through several significant shifts internally that gave me an increased quality of life and enhanced sense of self.
I will always be grateful to that counsellor and, ever since, have been interested in facilitating similar shifts and transformations for others.
After this experience I also became fascinated with spirituality of all kinds and, in particular, Buddhism, mindfulness, mediation, Tai Chi and somatic inquiry became intriguing to me. I have deeply explored these modalities and more ever since.
I am a Gestalt trained psychotherapist (with the Gestalt Training Institute of WA) and an accredited, qualified counsellor (I have a Diploma of Counselling with the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors); however, I also integrate other training and work that I’ve done in various related domains into my counselling practice. Presence and a fundamental ground of awareness informs, to a large extent, how I like to work with my clients. When I’m working with you, I am also creating a safe space for you to explore and the richness of contact and therapeutic relationship are fundamental to the effectiveness of my therapy style.
Prior to becoming a counsellor and psychotherapist, I completed a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Western Australia and became a Chartered Accountant and an R&D tax incentive specialist at several large accounting firms before starting my own practice.
I am an avid sports lover having played both cricket and soccer for many years and love sitting down in front of the tele to watch a big game to this day. I also love reading and bushwalking with my Maltese Poodle, Otis, whenever I get the chance.
I live in Perth, Western Australia, with my wife and young son and my family is the most important and cherished part of my life.
I love helping people whenever I can and always do my utmost to facilitate the growth and self-understanding of all of my clients.
I really look forward to getting to know you and working closely with you side-by-side to navigate this life and its myriad challenges together.
